POG Manager Report 4/27-5/3

POG Manager Report 4/27-5/3
Lunch with Shaena Peterson and gave interview on Port activities.
Several conversations/work sessions with Kathleen Newton to review work on Tourism Brochure. Also shared progress with GTC.
Spent day in Salem for OBDD Ports Division update. Heard legislative update in Salem and also from Washington DC with the agency’s lobbying firm.
          Filed monthly ConnectOregon report.
Conference call with EDA, Commissioner Folkema, Mary McArthur and Port’s engineer, Ken Valentine. Discussed issues related to grant, bid docs and next steps.
Received executed MAPS agreement from OSMB. Port will received $15,000 in grants to cover marine operations.
Harborview spraying requested. Guys have been doing a great job getting prepped for summer. Painting/striping should happen in next week or two.
Concrete poured in front of Garibaldi Charters to repair sidewalk.
Continue to field complaints for “kid” behavior at RV park. Staff is compiling record of
Call into sheriff’s office to obtain call report to port property (especially the RV park). Hoping to have a report to share with commission for their port meeting.
Conversation with Mr. Loster in G-14 about possibly switching him into G-13. Brian Trusty would like to rent G-14 to try out his larvae barge. Will require Port action to allow commercial barge use on guest dock.
Staff has ID’d certain trailers that we don’t coming to the RV park. This will be a helpful list to avoid future problems.
Looked into obtaining port-specific work clothes for maintenance staff. Should be a good improvement next fiscal year with the new work truck.
Received request from maintenance manager to review ordinances/rules. Will follow up with Dave to see if there are specific issues or if he’s looking for an overall review.
Call in to Lorraine Vandecoevering, Carol Brown and Laurice Meyers about the Blessing of the Fleet ceremony scheduled for later this month. Lorraine has had surgery and will be looking for some assistance. She also asked if a Port Commissioner might be interested in saying a few words at the ceremony.
Reviewed and supported new OSMB abandoned boat bill. Should be a better and easier way to get rid of derelict boats in our marina. The bill will also be looking to increase grants to marina operators to aide in boat removal.
Submitted TIGER pre-application to ODOT for their consideration as a state-wide priority project. Also began updating new TIGER application based upon new information. Deadline for application is June 3rd.
Reviewed and edited article on wharf for city newsletter.
Several phone calls about developing an abstract or preliminary permitting report following federal highway NEPA standards. Every federal agency (and even departments within the same administration) has different NEPA requirements. Hence, the work done with the USACE, DSL and EDA may not be applicable to federal highway (FHWA) standards. As we shop the road portion of the wharf project, it may help our application to have this abstract prepared. I talked to a permitting scientist and our ODOT planner about trying to scope such an abstract that could set our application aside from others.
Shared vision scope of work with DLCD and OBDD to receive opinion with the intent of requesting grant funds to help with the project.
Continue updating email database with new email addresses with oregoncoast.com having closed its doors. Have received hundreds of updated email addresses.
Received request from Lisa Phipps, TEP, for annual letter of support as part of their lease agreement. Sent letter back to her on Monday.
With Jessi’s help, negotiated the sale of the Suzy Q contingent on the boat being removed from the harbor. Boat was removed on Friday that should allow upgrades and some movement on the waiting list. This is great news as this could have cost us a few thousand dollars.
Talked to Rodney Breazile about his inability to attend budget committee meeting. Offered to meet with him to go over budget. He had something come up and couldn’t make it.
Call into HLB to add final design of shower building to RV park project.
OK’d letter with Garibaldi’s signature for OPPA letter to federal delegation to support a “small port” set aside with the HMTF. DeFazio is the lead on this issue.
Reviewed monthly financial reports, initialed bank records, reconciliation and prepared staff report for board packet.
Wrote staff report for launch fee waiver for Bounty on the Bay.
