OF GARIBALDI BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS SPECIAL DISTRICT ELECTION INFORMATION
The Port of Garibaldi announces there
will be four Port Commissioner positions on the ballot for the May 21, 2013
Special District Election. Three of the positions, #1, #2 and #4, are available
for the usual four-year term. Those terms will begin serving July 1, 2013 and
end June 30, 2017. Position #5 will be a two-year term to complete the
unexpired term created with the resignation of Commissioner David May. This
position will begin serving July 1, 2013 and end June 30, 2015.
The positions are currently being held
by Robert L. Browning (#1), John R. Luquette (#2), Valerie S. Folkema (#4), and
Paul Daniels (#5).
Port of Garibaldi Commissioners are
required to be registered voters who are electors of the Port district. The
district covers approximately 350 square miles beginning at the coast to the
eastern border (Siskeyville) of Tillamook County and from the Wilson River
north to Nedonna Beach and includes the cities of Bay City, Garibaldi and
Rockaway Beach.
The Port of Garibaldi is a special
district, authorized in 1910 under Oregon law, ORS Chapter 777. The Port is the
sponsor of the federal maritime investment on Tillamook Bay for channel and
jetty maintenance, manages thirty parcels for businesses dependent on maritime
commerce, a 277-slip marina and a 60-space RV park. Regular meetings take place
on the second Wednesday of each month starting at 7:00 p.m.
Persons interested in filing to be on
the ballot for any of the open Commission seats need to file with Tillamook
County Elections no earlier than February 9, 2013 and no later than March 21,
2013. The Candidate Manual and forms are available on the Oregon Secretary of
State’s website athttp://www.oregonvotes.gov/pages/publications/manuals/candidate/index.html. Interested candidates file with
Tillamook County Elections by either paying a $10 fee or by circulating a
petition to collect signatures and submitting signatures to the County for
verification. The Tillamook County Election office is open Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm.
